HI!

Je me demandais ce matin en écoutant le podcast "expressions 01" si "to pull so's leg" était l'équivalent exact de "se payer la tête de qqn" où s'il y avait une différence, notamment de registre.  ???

:D :D :D

And what does "flat" mean in this context? (the narrator is dwelling on American slums)
"...the narrow way where the houses did not rise, piercing, as it seems, the unchanging clouds, but huddled, flat, ignoble, close to the filthy ground, where the streets and the hallways and the rooms were dark, and where the unconquerable odor was of dust, and sweat, and urine, and homemade gin."
Is it used as synonym for "close to the ground" or rather sthg like dull, boring?
"unconquerable": is it sthg like insaisissable, indéfinissable?

Thank U in advance for yr help!  :)

And in this case, the word flat means "close to the ground," as you suggested :) you could say "low" as well.
