Per the idea in this thread (http://www.anglaispod.com/forum/index.php?topic=307.0), we now have a place to introduce ourselves! Since we are getting new members on a regular basis, I agree that it is a good idea.
If you have already introduced yourself, or if you have been posting for a while, feel free to post more here, because there are always new members! As for myself -- well, my name is Thomas, and I'm the one who does the podcast ;) I'm 23 years old (coming up on 24), American, and currently living in Huntsville, Alabama, in the US. I like working with foreign languages, as you could guess. I've studied French since 1999, and have studied Japanese, Chinese, and Italian as well. I also like football, watching movies, and playing video games, and am addicted to my Blackberry (or Crackberry, if you will). If you have any questions, feel free to ask! I'm rather open to disucssing things.
Well, My name is "censored" I'm 30 years old, french (with a little bit of austrian blood) and living in Southern France. I like to learn new things, computers, movies and US TV show. And finally, I enjoy video Games. I doesn't play them all day, but I love them.
P.S: Shadow Of The Colossus and Okami must be done! It's an order!
My turn!!my name is Petula(like the singer :D) but my surname is Mamour. It's for my cat.Not for Grey's anatomy :D. I leave in Maine et Loire next to Angers. I'm 36 years old(coming up 37 in november :'( I like to watch tv show especially Ncis and House md!!!I like to listen to Bruno Pelletier..a Canadian singer!!not Garou!!And I like to come on this forum even it's make me late for going to my work like this morning!!

Hello to everybody
It is a good idea to ask everybody to introduce themselves. My name is Joëlle, I am 40 years old. I am from Strasbourg and I've been leaving in the south west of France since 1990. (I'am not sure with the "present perfect....) but I know that Thomas keeps an eye on the forum....Anyway, I work for my own company, I have two teenagers 16 years old close to 17. They are twins. Two boys. I have 3 cats and one dog and I don't want to forget him "my husband". I like shopping, watching TV (being sometimes a couch potatoe) and of course learning English. I like languages as Thomas does. I can speak greek, not as fluent as I am in English but enough to surprise everybody because it is a difficult language. I would like to start Spanish which is a languague that seems easy for French but don't believe that because at a certain level Spanish is a difficult language. That's all for me.
Haha, mamour, I see how you have so many posts, you skip work ;)
I have only played the first colossus in Shadow -- the big tall hairy one you stab on top of the head. I still need to finish the rest of the game!
So you speak Greek? That's really fascinating, I have never met anyone who spoke Greek, aside from a few teachers. And you actually used the present perfect, well, perfectly ;) Just be sure not to mix up "to live" (habiter) and "to leave" (partir), so it would be "I've been living in..."
Hi Thomas,
and am addicted to my Blackberry (or Crackberry, if you will).
I just read that sentence you wrote on this thread. What deos this means please ?
My turn ;)
My name is Marie-Cécile but Celia is shorter. I am a 63 years old woman, coming up 64 soon. I am retired. I have been living for four years in a small village in the center of France, the one I was born and lived in, until 26, but I lived for 33 years in Paris before comeback and the lifestyle of this city misses me a lot. Life is so much different there and I love big city life.
There is nothing to do here so, I have plenty of free time and I spend it in front of my computer (I am a computer potato).
I have been starting to learn Inglish for two years now because lots of sites on Internet are in English but I took so much pleasure there that I do it now for fun and I added Italian to my list, and perharps the others later.
But I must say, my old brain do want to learn but my tongue is stubborn and I Think I have a BIG accent. :'( :'( :'(
Hahaha, a computer potato, that's hilarious. Also, it's a perfect modification of the expression couch potato :D And Italian, too!
A Blackberry is a type of cell phone -- a picture of mine is attached below (I'm at work, so I can't upload files to the website ;) )
"to be addicted to something" = être accro de quelque chose
So saying that I am addicted to my Blackberry means that I really enjoy using it, and I use it so much that I have difficulty stopping. Of course, this is just an exaggeration....mostly ;)
Saying that it is a Crackberry, that is a different way of making the same joke. Crack is an illegal drug that is very addictive, so people in the US often make the joke that something is really addictive by changing part of the word to crack. You can do it with lots of different words, but some are more common than others (such as Crackberry (http://crackberry.com/)).

Hello everybody, my name is Antoine, I'm 18 and I live near from Lyon.
I discovered anglaispod.com one week ago, while I was looking for a website in order to improve my English. And I chose anglaispod because I guess it's a very good one. The lessons are clear, and for different levels. I particularly appreciate "Expressions lessons", I think that's very interesting. It enables us to hear and learn English as it is really spoken, because I'm not sure it is the case at school.
My main hobby is sport : I love every sports. I also like computing and video games.
Welcome to the forum Toinamph, or Antoine rather! :) I'm glad you found the site, and hopefully you will continue to enjoy the lessons. A lot of people seem to like the Expressions lessons, and I really enjoy making them, too. Unfortunately, when I was learning French, I never learned many expressions or much "real French", so I found myself at a disadvantage when I started conversing with native speakers, and that's why I make those lessons.
Ok, so you like sports a lot -- which one is your favorite?
Well, my favorite one is tennis, but I like many others : cycling, track and field (or athletism ? i don't know how to say that), swimming, etc. I also enjoy winter sports, especially biathlon and alpin skiing.
me too tennis not nadal olympic winter especially hockey on ice
Sport is good, but the after, it's better!
Yep, it's track and field. I really like tennis, too. I suck at playing it, though, so I usually just watch it instead ;)

Have fun
M.
Hi MakiD, and welcome to the forum! :)
You know, I've actually met somebody from Albania -- it was while I was living in Tours, they went to the same university as me. They were really nice, they spoke like 4 languages (French, Russian, Greek, and Albanian), it was a lot of fun to hang out with them. I'm glad you have found the podcast! You're right about the accent between English and French, they are very different :D
Hello everyone.
My name is Kelly. I'm a native English speaker, but by no means an expert. I've only listened to a few of the podcasts, mostly because of a passing interest to learn French and of course to see what Thomas works on so often.
I live in Florida and am 23 years old. I don't watch television much, but since the third season of Heroes is starting, that may change. Other than that, I enjoy drawing and playing video games, all of which I can beat Thomas at.
So many English speaker comes to us! I'm happy!
Bienvenue parmi nous ! :)
I'm very happy to see the podcast's success(or success of the podcast ?? ???)
Actually, both ways work, the podcast's success or the success of the podcast, they mean the same thing :)
Kelly, you can beat me at drawing, sure. I draw stick figures well (ish), but that's about it. And perhaps at Mortal Kombat. But give me any other video game, and you would die ;) Especially at Starfox. Or Halo. Or...[several hundred games later]...yep, all of those.
Any game without falling damage? :P
I know an only game bubble bubble ;D

Hello everybody!
I am Caiomhe, a crazy young woman who studies Latin, Greek and of course English! I live in Paris so about my mood cf Thomas Dutronc's song (J'aime plus Paris - Thomas, I don't think you know it in America but, if you want, you can find it on Deezer...). I am keen on Ireland and James Joyce. I like also House MD - but I worry about it as I have made 3 tests which tell me that I am Gregory House :-\ :D
My favourite film is The wind that shakes the barely: I can't help crying at the end :'( :'( :'( and calling Damien! This is stupid, I know... ;)
And last but not least, I want to THANK YOU VERY MUCH Thomas for your podcast and this forum!
Dear all,
I'm so glad I found Thomas' brilliant podcasts and forum. I'm very thankful for that ! I've only listened to a few of the advanced podcasts but I find them impressive. I mean, this is 'un cours d'anglais', but it is quite original because it focuses on the problems we might encounter when speaking a foreign language in a foreign country, and dealing with cultural differences every day.
My name is Sophie, I'm 24 and I live in Lyon. I studied in England for two years and I was a French assistant at the same time. Now that it's over I'm pretty nostalgic and I sometimes find myself thinking that life in France is pretty dull compared to life abroad. I'm glad to be back in France though.
I don't know what else to say, except it's nice meeting you all ! ;)
Welcome both of you :) I'm glad you like the podcast!
@Calomhe
Latin, Greek, and English...and of course, French. You definitely are crazy :P I do actually know the song J'aime plus Paris, I've heard it several times.
@Spinto
Life always seems more interesting in a different country! I miss France all the time, even every day things were much more interesting in Tours! :)
Hi, I'm Woshi, from paris :3

I've discover this website when I found your podcast on iTunes (you were in Top 10 or something like that) and I loved it.
What can I say ? ^^
(If I did some mistakes, correct me ;) )
Dear Maxime,
first of all, welcome ! We love English too. Actually, your English is already very good. I don't really see any mistakes, except maybe that you should use "make" with the word "mistake". You make mistakes, you don't do them. ;)
Feel free to post and talk on any subject you're interested in.
See you :D
Thanks and nice to meet you! :)
hi everybody! What can I tell you... hum...
ok...
I'm Etienne and I'm 15(16 soon). I live in the suburbs of Paris. I've found this podcast for 2 months and I've listened many episodes.
I want to be able to speak english as I can speak french tday when I'll have finished high school.
:)
Hi everybody !
First, I want to address a special thanks to Thomas who is doing a really good podcast, for two reasons : Your accent is trainee friendly and your podcast is different than others because it sounds like you are close, as a friend, contrary to any english lessons. It reminds me some discussions with english speaker friends.
Ok, my turn now to introduce myself ! I'm Jerome and I live in Guadeloupe, French west Indies, since one year. I'm 34 years old, father of two boys, 2 and 4 years old. I specially love sailing and movies. About movies, my favorite directors, among others, are Cohen brothers, Coppola, Kubrick, Kusturica, Klapish, etc. And I love traveling as well. This is one of the reason I like speaking english.
I will be glad to share and talk with anyone.
Hope to see you soon.
Gilliam
Nice to meet you Gill, see you soon on the forum :)
Pleased to meet you Gilliam.
Your nickname makes me think of Terry Gilliam. ;D

Hi Thomas,
I've recently discovered your pod-casts and I love the advanced lessons ; I learn a lot of things about lifestyle in USA. I don't travel at all since I had my 2 girls (6 and 3 and half year old), and I enjoy listening your experiences of life in USA and of traveler in France and hearing about discrepancies between French and American lifestyles.
I am French from south of Paris and My sister in law leaves in Tour ;)
Thank you very much Thomas and go on!!

Hi everybody
I'm Biky , that's not my real name as you may think , just the way some friends call me .
I've just discovered this pod- cast ; I 'm eager to discover it , though I get tired very easily as I was diagnosed with lyme disease in August . I had had trouble with my back for ages , and thought it was because of golf ( I used to be quite good at golf , taking a lot of competitions and I loved that )
Then I got into hell , the pain became unbearable so I had to give up playing
I've been off work for one year and a half now ; I turned out to be so tired and unable to bear a single noise , unable to write and nobody could tell me what I had ; we had nine persons of my family and of my husband's who died , one of whom was my father so I got more and more depressed
I cannot go out a lot now , I can't bear it ; I still suffer a lot from my joints , whichever they are , and I've been on antibiotics for 5 months now , I know it might be long before I get better
So , I advise you to be very careful if you happen to be bitten by a tick , get to the doctor as soon as you can, 3 weeks of antibiotics and it will be finished.
Had I known that before , I would have rushed to see the doctor , since I had a tick on my chest 10 years ago.
So I spend most of my time on forums ( especially concerning the lyme disease , or chatting with people when I feel like it on some others )
That's about everything about me .

And there will be new podcasts soon, no worries :)
thank you for this job ;)
Thanks to the new technology I listen to audio books or podcast in English as often as possible, I even listen to it when i am doing a boring job where concentration is not needed. Unfortunately I hardly ever have the opportunity to speek or write in English. I just discover your podcast, it is a very, very good surprise. I am going to be a very faithful listener and will take the opportunity to communicate in writing as often as I can.
I am grateful to you as you offer your time for free and communicate your love of the English to strangers. I am 53 and I can tell you that it is the first time I am very happy with the content of an engilsh lessons. Since I decided to bring back to life my English knowledges I was always disappointed cause I couldn't find a good method for false beginner and more over which teach every day's vocabulary and expressions.
I podcast all intermediates, advanced and expressions lessons. I already listen to all of them at once but yet I will listen to each of them carefully in order to assimilate as much as possible every interesting informations, the vocabulary and the expressions. I am already looking forward to listening to the next podcast.
Best regards. Nini from the French part of Switzerland
Welcome to the forums, Nini! I'm glad that the podcasts are useful for you, hopefully they will help you get lots of vocab and expressions and everything. If you ever have any questions or suggestions for lessons, please don't hesitate to ask.

Congratulations for your lessons
Have you some excercices to train to learn English?
Thank you for all
Daniel
Hi everybody,
And first, many thanks Thomas for these english lessons that I often listen in my car; great job !!
I'm french, 51, and I'm living near Nantes (not so far from Tours ;-).
Married, 2 children, who speak better and better english (I think better than me yet).
Sometimes, I visit this site to check whether there are new lessons or not. I saw today than you were well occupied last year, Thomas, and I hope you passed your Master exam ; if not yet, good luck for it.
Thank you again, and maybe "hear you soon".
Fabrice
I'm glad you like the lessons! Hopefully they are useful for you. Yes, there have not been any new lessons recently, but I am planning on doing some this summer. I actually just finished my Master's in May, so I am very happy :) I am starting a Doctorate in August, however, so I will still be busy! I would like to keep adding new lessons, though. I have planned out several of them, so all I have to do is record.
It's good that your children speak English, that will be beneficial for them in the future. More and more jobs expect employees to speak more than one language, and English is a good choice for many different careers.
Hi Thomas,
If I remember (and have well understood) one of your advanced lessons, your doctorate will last 2 years.
So, I can say to you "break a leg" for that (expression lesson #4), and good luck (I would say "bon courage").
Friendly
Fabrice.

I'm actually listen lesson 26 at my job. Your lesson are very informative and funny.
That's cool see the progression in your life in your podcast.
I found very funny the moment that you bought 2 mic HAHA.
Anyway ( no "s" as you say in your lesson) keep the good job you done ;)
Hi Guillaume, and welcome to the forums! I'm glad the lessons are helpful for you. And also glad you found those parts funny, I'm always worried that the humor won't translate well :P
Hi There!
I'm 22 and I'm french. (I never use my real name online.).
So, I have no excuses I must introduce myself in English.
I lived in Ireland for 8 months and in California for one year.
I try to practice everyday but that's not easy since I'm back in France.
As it says, practice makes perfect. My dream is to be fluent. I'm working on this ;D
It's nice to meet you all.
@Thomas: You helped me to get ready to go to US. Now I spend time listening to Advanced lessons. I'm very proud of me. Thank you!
Coxxie
Hi Coxxie, and welcome to the forum. It's good to hear that you're able to use the advanced lessons now, it sounds like you're coming along well with your English.
Question for you: you've lived in Ireland for a bit, but also California -- what accent do you have when you speak English? I think Irish accents are neat, but I have a hard time imitating one myself!
Thank you Thomas.
First of all, I hope you'll understand what I'm trying to say. In my opinion my English is pompous.
I left Ireland 3 years ago. When I came back there last March, I got trouble to understand Irish people. But I think they have a cute accent.
In Northern Ireland it sounds a bit like British to me compared to the South. The parents of the family I lived with weren't from the same place. The mother was from Belfast whereas the father was from Dublin. They didn't speak alike.
It's funny to hear how they pronounce the words like "now" or the "th".
I came back from California last January. Today I do practice and know American English better. The vocabulary I use is mostly American.
I have to work a lot to keep my English up to date. According to my friends there, I'm fluent (not sure if it's true) but I can feel it's harder to speak I'm not in this social environment. Do I say right? Do you know what I mean? Any way, I can't help speaking with my French accent. It's funny because I don't like it but American people do.
I know what you mean, yes :) I have an American accent in French no matter how much I practice. But it gets better slowly!
Obviously I can only base this statement on a couple of posts, but your English seems quite good to me. It's definitely hard to keep practicing when there are fewer opportunities, but it's much easier now in 2012 than it would have been in, say, 1992 or something, thanks to the internet.
Hey :)
I'm Bobine (I don't tell my name too!) and I'm 30, I would like to thank you for all the work you did here... I've discover this podcast a few hours ago and I already like it very much.
I've never learned how to speak foreign languages at school (oh I got teachers and lessons of course but wasn't interested and I never tried to learn anything!) and that means I have absolutely no idea about grammar and so on. Of course I never went to some english speaking country.
Now, I think I can understand almost everything, I read lot of books and watch movies in English, but I'm still not able to say a single word, even if people say my accent is not that bad :)
Well, I've start your lessons today from the beginning (up to now from 1 to 6 and the 1st advanced) and I repeat absolutely all what you say in hope it'll help me to be more confident...
Thank you again for everything you did to help us all!
Hi Bobine, and welcome to the forum! I hope the lessons help you with speaking, if you repeat like you said you're doing that will definitly help you out. You have no problems typing English, clearly! Please post a message if you have any questions or need any help with anything, or if you have ideas for other lessons.
Hello,
My name is Michaël and am living at Antananarivo, MADAGASCAR. I love english as language but I don't speak it very well...so shy I think. The issue (je sais pas si c'est le bon terme) is I'm thinking in french and trying to translate in english. I'm here to eventually be able to speak fluently and easily without fear when I'll hear native calling or asking me something...
thank you all
:)
Bonjour,
